International best-selling author joins quest
The SafeKnight Foundation and Child-Safe International have joined forces with best-selling Australian author Melissa-Jane Pouliot in our mutual quest to help find missing persons.
Chairman and founder of Child-Safe International Chris Gould contacted Melissa-Jane after reading her #1 international best-seller ‘Write About Me’, a fictional story about a missing Australian teenager inspired by her first cousin Ursula Barwick who has been missing for 26 years.
The pair met in Merimbula to discuss ongoing collaboration to help prevent young people from going missing and to find missing people via the SafeKnight app for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android.
Melissa-Jane said she was thrilled to be working with Child-Safe International and SafeKnight to help raise global awareness for missing persons. “Although ‘Write About Me’ is based in Australia, it is resonating with people around the world because missing persons is a such a major global issue. In the UK alone, a quarter of a million people go missing every year,” Melissa-Jane said.
“It is a privilege and an honour to support the incredible work that Child-Safe International and SafeKnight are doing for missing persons. The SafeKnight app is amazing technology that I wish was around in 1987 when Ursula went missing.”
In Australia, more than 35,000 people go missing every year. While 95 per cent of people are found within a short period of time, there remain around 1600 long-term missing persons of which Ursula is one.
